What started as a simple idea for a new dab mat has evolved into a massive project that has sparked incredible engagement and excitement across the cannabis community. The Periodic Table of Hash Strains was born from a desire to celebrate our favorite hash strains while presenting them in a format that feels both scientific and fun.
With dozens of users on social media sharing their input or reaching out to thank us, it’s clear that this project resonates with hash enthusiasts, cultivators, and anyone who loves cannabis culture. As a visual learner myself, I’ve always found it helpful to organize information in a way that allows us to see connections and patterns—and this table achieves that beautifully.
How the Table Works
The Periodic Table of Hash Strains isn’t just a collection of random names. Its layout is designed with intention:
- Sweet vs. Savory: Strains on the left tend to lean sweeter (think fruity or candy-like), while strains on the right have a more savory, gassy profile.
- Core Strains vs. Descendants: The upper and outer edges are home to the quintessential strains—those legendary cultivars that have influenced generations of cannabis breeding. Descendants and hybrids occupy the middle and lower portions, showing how the cannabis family tree has branched out over time.
- The “Mids” Section: Placed squarely in the middle, the “Mids” section is a lighthearted addition. While not meant to undermine these strains’ historical importance, it reflects their relatively bland flavor or yield in hash production. Classics like Blue Dream and Green Crack find themselves here—not as a slight to their status, but simply because they don’t quite match the terpy richness or hashy yields of other entries. This section is also a reminder that the table is not a set-in-stone constant of the universe—it’s a fun, flexible poster meant to be enjoyed, not scrutinized.
A Poster, Not Perfection
It’s important to note that this table isn’t meant to be an exhaustive, definitive list of strains. Instead, it’s our interpretation—a collection of strains we admire for their contributions to hash culture, presented in a playful yet scientific format.
Of course, a project like this will always have its challenges. Many strains defy easy classification, fitting equally well into multiple categories such as fruit, candy, or gas. Even more, different phenotypes of the same strain can express wildly varying terpene profiles, sometimes requiring reclassification altogether. But that’s the beauty of cannabis—it’s endlessly diverse and always evolving.
A Celebration of Hash Culture
At its heart, the Periodic Table of Hash Strains is a celebration. It’s a fun way to highlight the strains that have shaped modern hashmaking, with a nod to the scientific precision we value at Hashtek. After all, our very logo is inspired by the periodic table of elements—so what better way to connect our love for hash with our passion for innovation?
We hope this poster sparks conversation, inspires curiosity, and pays tribute to the craft and creativity of the hash community. Whether you’re a cultivator, a hashmaker, or just a fan of solventless, this table is for you.
And who knows—maybe this is just the beginning. As new strains emerge, as old legends resurface, and as hashmaking continues to evolve, so too might this table. In the meantime, it stands as a snapshot of our favorite strains and the vibrant, ever-growing culture that surrounds them.
Thank you to everyone who contributed ideas, feedback, and encouragement along the way. This project belongs to all of us, and we can’t wait to see how you use it in your own hash journey.

Version 1.0 (November 18, 2024)

Future Plans
- Add a Separate Row for Landrace Genetics:
A new section highlighting foundational landrace strains like Afghani, Thai, and Durban Poison. These strains are the genetic backbone of modern cannabis and deserve their own distinct recognition. - Incorporate Cheese or Other Flavors as Categories or Subcategories:
Exploring the addition of a Cheese category (or subcategory under Gas) to reflect strains with distinct dairy-like or savory profiles. This would make the table more comprehensive for users familiar with unique terpene expressions.
We’re excited to continue improving and expanding the table, and we welcome your ideas and feedback for future revisions. Stay tuned for what’s next in this ever-evolving project!
