Hashtek Sponsors Coffee & Donuts “To Go”Tour Michigan Stop

We’re big fans of The Hashish Inn podcast over here at team Hashtek and had the best time at the Smoking Jacket last summer in Portland, so we knew we had to get involved in this latest event co-hosted by the @simp.lee.adam and @thehashishinn crew.

The Coffee & Donuts “To Go” Tour was born out of the idea to take the podcast on the road and always have local makers, cultivators, and friends come along for the ride and contribute to a collaborative curriculum.

First up was Maine, then Oklahoma and Colorado — and now the tour is making its way to Michigan. We couldn’t be more excited to join this stop as a sponsor and check out one of the most happening hash markets in the country right now.

We did a little interview of our own and sat down with Shoragim, host of the podcast, to chat more about what to expect from this event and why he’s so excited about getting to Michigan.

Q&A With Shoragim of The Hashish Inn

Coffee & Donuts has been a tour with a few different stops — why did you pick Michigan and why are you excited to be at this location?

Michigan was on our list of places to go because we’ve always had a lot of good feedback from Michigan, whether it comes from the podcast or whether it comes from people asking us to come there.

So I think Michigan is a good audience for the podcast and the Coffee & Donuts platform and that’s why we decided to bring it there.

Are there any particular trends you’ve noticed coming out of Michigan, or anything you want to say about their hash market in regards to flavors, events, or product innovations?

I mean, I would start by saying I feel like Michigan’s hash and rosin scene is pretty developed. I feel like there’s a lot of high-quality resin coming out of the state.

There is a little bit of that regional thing where they have their own flavors. You know, the East Coast tends to go a little gassier while the West Coast seems to be more along the fruit lines. Michigan may be a little bit of a mix.

I like that they have their medical market still in existence there. In regards to trends, the one thing I will say is it seems like Michigan has a lot of events. Events are popping off there. It’s been interesting bringing an event there and definitely poses a different kind of challenge for us.

I know a lot of makers are coming back that you’ve had at events before, and lots of new ones are coming out as well. Is there anyone in particular you’re excited about?

We’re having people come back, which for us is flattering in the sense that people have come out and had such a good time that they’re willing to come out again.

I’m excited to represent the ladies in Michigan — we’re going to have three or four different ladies on our speaking panels. So I think that’s one of the things that we’re definitely most excited about. The dudes get a lot of the highlighting and stuff but getting to know these guys over time, you know, you find out one of their wives is the main cultivator, or another is more on the processing side and her husband is the cultivator. I’m excited to hear those stories because there are not so many women in the scene.

Outside of that, I would say one of the ones that I’m more excited about, just because I kind of know what the deal is with the tasting, is Fort Wendy who won the Smoking Jacket last year. He’s going to be presenting his Yellow Zushi but there’s going to be a little twist to it that we don’t quite want to announce yet.

This event is unique with the focus on food and coffee and really spotlighting flavors and pairings across the culinary and cannabis scenes. How did that come to be?

I would say that the event is kind of ever-evolving. I don’t think that where it’s at right now is maybe where it started. It originally started more as an educational thing and it was important to us to feed people right.

I guess one of the main tenets of Coffee & Donuts is quality. So if we’re there to explore what quality resin means to all of us and get attuned or synchronized in that sense, then the food and the drinks and everything should be up to par.

Over time that’s developed into more of this idea that this is an experience, like you’re seeing with pairing beer or wine with different flavors. And not only with resin but also blending that in with coffee. So for example, this particular round will be the first time that we’ll be doing a coffee pairing.

We’re going to have some coffee made by this company called Sugar Skool out of Arcata, which is this very small batch company and they’re going to be throwing together a little batch of coffee for us for our second edition of Coffee & Donuts. We plan to pair that with some Sour Skunk out of the East Coast, that was one selection out of like 1,000 seeds.

Overall, we just see it as this cohesive experience of blending in flavors and basically just providing people quality across the board.

We’re super excited to be part of those quality experiences and bring a unit out to Michigan with us — how will it be incorporated into the event?

We’re excited to have Hashtek as well, we had a really good time working with them at the Smoking Jacket. I think that part of the thing that we’re most excited about bringing in Hashtek in particular, is it’s going to give us an opportunity to teach people a bunch of different things.

We’ll have TerpWizard who runs an A-series in his lab doing a demo on the Hashtek. He’ll be able to cover various topics and we’ll be doing some compare and contrast portions of the curriculum including ice vs iceless washing.

We’ll also be talking about scaling. Overall, I think it’ll provide an opportunity for people who are already making hash with the chance to see a unit that they might grow into soon. They might be doing the hand washing, but after seeing something in action, and really getting the scoop as to what they can do with the units, it could definitely be something that somebody could grow into from the class.

Any last thoughts or things you want to add?

You know, Coffee & Donuts came about as a joke between Adam and me. And like I said, it’s evolved into something completely different, from being something where we just interviewed people online to taking it live.

The spirit of Coffee & Donuts I would say is a kind of silliness, a little bit of absurdism, and even some surrealism. But in the end, I think it’s also full of really passionate people that are super knowledgeable and they’re stoked to share their knowledge with people.
