Carta SPORT Review: The Dab Rig Battery King?

When Focus V dropped the Carta SPORT, the headline feature was clear: the new removable and interchangeable airpath, what they have dubbed ‘The Connect’. But what really hooked me was the promise of 50 dabs per charge.

I’ve had the final production model for about a week now, though I was lucky enough to test a few prototypes over the last few months. As a consistent dabber and daily user of e-rigs, battery life is a big deal. So naturally, I wanted to see if the Carta SPORT could actually live up to the hype.

The Battery Test

To keep things scientific, I ran a stress test:

  • Dab Length: 35 seconds
  • Temp: 480°F

Normally, I run slightly longer heat-ups and take slower dabs, but for this test I kept things short and efficient—kind of like driving a car at 90km/h on the highway vs. city stop-and-go.

And the results?
By dab #34, I still had 15% battery remaining. That’s four full days of heavier-than-usual dabbing. I tracked everything on the Hashtek Instagram stories, where the community chimed in with lots of questions—mostly about how it stacks up to the Puffco Peak Pro.

Battery Specs Breakdown

Let’s look at the numbers side by side:

DeviceVoltageCapacity (mAh)Watt-Hours
Puffco Peak Pro7.4V1700mAh12.58 Wh
Carta SPORT7.4V2720mAh20.13 Wh

That’s a massive battery upgrade—Focus V clearly prioritized longevity with this release. I was able to find the Peak Pro numbers on a Reddit post where a user was trying to replace the battery in his Peak Pro.

Real-World Use Case: Film Set Test

We ran the Carta SPORT during a full-day shoot for the “Dabbing from the Dark Ages” video. Normally, when filming with e-rigs and pushing big dabs for thick clouds, we’d kill a battery halfway through. But not this time. The SPORT held up the entire shoot without skipping a beat.

Battery Efficiency Graph

Here’s a look at how the Carta SPORT performed across the full 40 dabs:

This chart shows how many dabs were achieved per 10% battery chunk. You can see that performance remains impressively consistent even as battery drains.

App & Connectivity Notes

I did run into some Bluetooth pairing issues on Android—occasionally needing to restart the app or device to reconnect. But to be fair, I was connecting after nearly every dab just to log battery levels. In normal use, this likely wouldn’t happen as often.

Wishlist for the Next Update

Here’s what I’d love to see next:

  • A four-dot LED battery indicator like DJI uses—so helpful when you just want a quick glance.
  • An easier power-on system—maybe long hold instead of 5 clicks to turn on?

Let me know what you think—should power-on be click-based or long-hold? Drop a comment.

Final Verdict

The Carta SPORT earns a big thumbs-up. The battery life is best-in-class, and once you’ve dialed in your temp, you’ll hardly miss having a screen. This rig hits hard, lasts long, and feels like the first true contender to rethink battery life as a priority.

Big respect to Focus V for pushing this category forward.

Disclaimer

Hashtek (and me personally) have no financial stake in Focus V. I tried to invest in their crowdfunding round but it wasn’t open to Canadians. We sell their products because we use them and think they’re worth sharing with the community.
