This is a topic that I have been wanting to cover on the blog for some time now. We hear many different approaches including the classic clear, cloudy & amber trichomes, microscope identification of heads being at their largest size, physical attributes of the plant including yellowing of fan leaves among others.

Would love to get some community input on what YOU look for when determining if your fresh frozen is ready to harvest.

Nuances

I prefer to harvest when the plant has hit peak ripeness and terps are at proper expression.
Keep in mind, there are different harvest windows for plants once they become ripe. Most modern hash makers are looking to execute in the earlier part of that window.  A traditional hashmaker looking for a different effect and caring less about the visual appeal of the hash may opt for the latter part of the harvest window

@Kaya those are some great points. It matters if your primary intent is effect, smell or visual appearance of the rosin. Harvesting early has always been associated with lighter color, and unfortunately darker rosins get stigmatized right off the bat by many consumers.

@kaya agreed. Let the plant represent itself instead of being misrepresented by chopping early.
